My Roots
|
I was forged through many generations in the Sonoran Desert. My youth was spent crossing a tangible yet invisible border between the United States and Mexico. My family was divided on either side, and my cultural lineage began to span and evolve in two directions. With every journey within two sides of the same land, I remained the same while simultaneously changing, gaining perspective of the richness in every culture.
And now, the journey continues with an ability and desire to act as a bridge between cultures, |
to now have a deep knowing of the diversity which exists in my own being, and to be able to learn from and teach about the richness in diversity. I now feel a passion to explore how we can deepen into connection and collaboration with ourselves and others.
About Monica

As a professional, I began with an exploration of my passion for dance and attained a BFA in modern dance from the University of Arizona. I used this degree to support others in the field of education, and incorporated the power of movement as a teacher in elementary school programs.
I then discovered a conscious and intentional practice of psychotherapy that utilized movement and the body as a primary tool to heal. I received my Master’s Degree from Naropa University in 2002 in Somatic Psychology/Dance Movement Therapy. I have been practicing as a body-centered psychotherapist ever since, utilizing my skills and passion with individuals who have experienced trauma, families who are challenged in relationship, and with people who feel limited by their current patterns and beliefs.
I am passionate about people and the diversity inherent in being human. In having an internal experience with diversity, I bring a strong sense of commitment to intercultural relations, and am dedicated to learning how to share with and evolve with others in healthy ways. I am fluent in the Spanish language, and can offer a bi-cultural experience in the United States as an asset to the therapeutic exchange.
