Body Centered Psychotherapy
In general Body Centered Psychotherapy can be defined as an approach to psychological well-being that is supported by the attention to and guidance of the body’s knowledge and its expression. By creating awareness and attending to the beliefs and patterns which are held in our bodies and thoughts, one can tap into the tremendous resource that we as humans have to heal and evolve.
How I integrate Body Centered Psychotherapy:
The body is a magnificent vessel that allows us to interact with the world, access our relationships to love and spirit, and create and transcend as we develop and experience. One can be carnal, rational, emotional and spiritual simultaneously. Our bodies have amazing abilities to survive, adapt, and change in order to meet the needs of life and relationship. There are moments that we experience while being human that can be harmful or traumatic, and our bodies, minds, and spirits may struggle to integrate and heal. When this happens one might experience challenges that manifest differently for each person or partnership.
By attending to the patterns, movements, and energetic qualities within a person, I can support a person’s inherent ability and desire to return or shift into a more optimal state of wellness. This may look like verbal direction or inquiry, participation in an experiential activity, or simply allowing and guiding a person to do what he or she would like to do within a safe environment. I believe in an individual’s wisdom and capacity to find health, and I support and facilitate these possibilities.

EMDR
EMDR is an acronym for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and was founded by Francine Shapiro. It is predominately a nonverbal body centered technique that utilizes bilateral stimulation in order to access and move deeply held beliefs and trauma. In doing so, there is an opportunity to gain more resources, release and transform detrimental patterns and beliefs, and support and create healthy and adaptive strategies; thus promoting psychological well-being and improved relationships with our internal self and others. It is a powerful tool that is used as an adjunct within a more holistic therapeutic process. I am certified in level II of EMDR, and have been using this technique to support all ages in processing stuck or limiting feelings, sensations, and beliefs.
Diversity & InclusivityAn Interculturalist approach:
Intercultural is defined as relating to, involving or representing different cultures; a process of interaction between different cultures. Because all of us have unique origins and a variety of values, traditions and beliefs, I believe that it is important to have awareness and attend to the diversity in each of us. |

Respecting and integrating the different perspectives and needs that each person has is fundamental to all of our life stories. Our unique values and cultures help to create our identity and a container for our expression. Whether your diversity stems from ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, or cultural differences, I believe that incorporating these intricate and holistic parts of our selves supports our unique healing experiences.
Bilingual in the Spanish Language
Because of my bicultural experience in the United States, I have been able to blend my Latina heritage, its language, and the experience of incorporating differing value systems in my American experience. Although there may be many challenges that arise when one culture interfaces with another, there can also be many blessings and opportunities to grow. In gratefully being able to speak both Spanish and English, I have been able to bridge and utilize some of the gifts of both Western and more traditional/indigenous practices. I am happy to support others who speak Spanish, as well as others who have their own bicultural experience from any other culture.
Attending to AttachmentThe impact of our early attachment bonds can play a significant role in our current relationships with our partners, friends, and children. Understanding and dymystifying the patterns that naturally occur in our lives can support the potential to be in relationships in healthier ways. Our need to connect to survive and thrive is part of our humanity. This need is continuous from our earliest moments to our present day in relationships. For me, honoring and strengthening our ability to love and be loved is one of the most valuable pursuits that exists.
